It’s the weekend. Here are some ways to spend it.

Northside Music Festival

The inaugural Northside Music Festival is Friday through Sunday. Previously known as the Deutschtown Music Festival, the free, three-day event will feature more than 70 musical acts, an artist market and more than 30 food trucks.

On Saturday, there will be activities for children in Allegheny Commons Park.

The event opens at 6 p.m. Friday, noon Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday at sites throughout the North Side.

Some of the bands Friday are The Regal Sweet, NASH.V.ILL, Miss Freddye’s Blues Band, Crush Curl and the Allegheny Brass Band. On Saturday, Stone Throwers, Cam Chambers, Forestry Division, Flower Crown, Tiny Wars and Jason Gamble will perform.

On Sunday, there will be gospel music performed in Allegheny Commons Park outside the Allegheny Center Alliance Church, including performances by members of the church, as well as the Urban Impact Foundation choir and Steel City Revival.

Beer here

The 10th annual Summer Beerfest is Saturday at Stage AE on the North Shore. More than 200 local, regional and hard-to-find craft beers will be available to sample. It’s a way to try various brews and talk directly with brewers and distributors.

There will be a 1 p.m. session and 7:30 p.m. session.

Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Biggies Bullies, an organization that finds forever homes for animals in need.

Regular admission is $50, and admission to get in one hour early is $60. Designated driver tickets also are available for $30, in advance only.

Another beer event is happening. It’s a collaboration between Inner Groove Brewing in Verona and Ambridge’s Fermata Brewing for two beer releases.

American IPAs Hey Hey, My My and My My, Hey Hey will be available at both breweries as well as at a release party from 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday called Blues, Brews and BBQ at Railroad Park Verona. Live music will be playing all day.

Ballet

Texture Contemporary Ballet presents “Smooth Moves” Friday through Sunday at the New Hazlett Theater on the North Side. The performance will feature work choreographed by artistic director Alan Obuzor and guest choreographer Henry Steele, a Point Park University graduate.

“Smooth Moves” marks the start of the ballet’s 13th season. It opens with “The Beauty of Flight,” which was co-choreographed by Obuzor and Kelsey Bartman and originally premiered in 2019.

Shows are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. There is a children’s performance at 4 p.m. Saturday. It consists of excerpts from the full-length production, plus an interactive portion on stage with the dancers. Designed for children 10 and younger.

Tickets are $34, $24 for seniors, students and artists and $14 per family for the children’s performance.

Savoyards

The Pittsburgh Savoyards, a semiprofessional nonprofit theatre company, opens its 86th season with Carlo Goldoni’s “The Servant of Two Masters” directed by Andy Kirtland. Performances will take place at the Margaret Partee Performing Arts Center in Bellevue.

Savoyards perform two Gilbert and Sullivan productions per year. In this comedy, the character Truffaldino Battochio has two masters calling him. He attempts to get extra servings at every meal by earning wages as the assistant of two different employers, neither knowing about the other.

Can he keep his secret safe while being an attentive and effective servant to two people who have busy schedules? And what if he isn’t the only one keeping a secret? Guests will find out.

Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $15.

Jam on Walnut

Pittsburgh’s No Bad JuJu will perform at Jam on Walnut at 7 p.m. Saturday along Walnut Street in Shadyside. The free block party is held from 6 to 10 p.m. The group is an eight-piece ensemble that performs a diverse selection of music from classic rhythm and blues, soul, rock, pop and Top 40 hits.

Some shops and restaurants will be open with part of the proceeds from sales to benefit local charities.

The free event is hosted by Think Shadyside.
