Programming for the 2019-20 EQT Bridge Theater Series, aimed at young people ages 7 and up and their families, has been announced by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and EQT Corp.

The first offering will be “Walk Two Moons,” based on Sharon Creech’s Newbery Medal-winning novel. The play will be staged Nov. 8-9 in the Byham Theater in downtown Pittsburgh.

The coming-of-age story is framed by a cross-country trip that 13-year-old Sal takes with her grandparents in search of her missing mother.

Other titles in the series include:

• “Mad Libs Live!”, Jan. 17-18 in the Byham Theater. Based on the popular word game, the musical takes place at the finals of Teen Superstars, a live TV show that will determine the most popular singing group at Blankville Central High. Audience members will help fill in words missing from the songs.

• “Pss Pss,” April 3-4 in the August Wilson Cultural Center. Inspired by the physical comedy of silent film stars like Charlie Chaplin and incorporating acrobatics and “mishaps,” “Pss Pss” has won 15 international awards including a Cirque du Soleil prize.

• “Emil and the Detectives,” May 16 in the August Wilson Cultural Center, in conjunction with the EQT Children’s Theater Festival. A group of children rallies around Emil to catch a thief when something valuable is stolen from him on a train trip to the big city, in a romp based on Erich Kästner’s 1929 novella.

“This season is full of exciting adventures, captivating stories, humor, and plenty of surprises! Every performance was created specifically for pre-teens and teens ready to experience seriously adventurous theater,” the Cultural Trust says.

Tickets for the series are scheduled to go on sale Aug. 30.
