Pittsburgh CLO cancels entire summer season of musicals
Pittsburgh CLO canceled all of its summer season of musicals.
The decision was made as a result of uncertainties and risks related to the covid-19 pandemic, according to Executive Producer and CEO Van Kaplan.
The season was set to open June 2 with national tours of “The SpongeBob Musical” and “Once on This Island,” and would have included in-house productions of “Cabaret,” “Guys and Dolls,” “Sister Act” and “A Chorus Line.”
Season ticket holders will be able to transfer their seats to next year’s newly announced 75th anniversary “Season to Remember.”
Next year’s season is set to begin June 1, 2021, with the national tour of “Jersey Boys,” followed by five self-produced shows: “Kinky Boots,” “A Chorus Line,” “The Drowsy Chaperone” with Clay Aiken, “Sister Act” and a special 50th anniversary production of “Godspell.”
“‘Godspell’ had its world premiere in Pittsburgh at Carnegie Mellon University, and we are proud to be involved in a new production of this show with hometown roots,” Kaplan said.
A campaign — Raise the Curtain — has been announced to raise funds to sustain the organization until the 2021 season gets underway.
Patrons who have already purchased 2020 season tickets, gift certificates or reserved group tickets can email ticketdept@pittsburghclo.org or visit the website for more information.
