TV Q&A: Which Hallmark Christmas movies filmed in America?

Trib Total Media TV writer Rob Owen answers reader questions every Wednesday at TribLive.com in a column that also appears in the Sunday Tribune-Review.

Q: What Hallmark Christmas movies that will premiere in 2020 were filmed in the United States?

Rob: While the bulk of the 40 new Hallmark Christmas films were filmed in Canada, six of them were shot in the U.S.

“The Christmas Bow” (4 p.m. Nov. 28, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries), “Christmas Tree Lane” (6 a.m. Nov. 28, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries”) and “Holly Ivy” (2 p.m. Dec. 9, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) filmed in Utah.

“One Royal Holiday” (6 p.m. Nov. 22, Hallmark Channel) was shot in Connecticut.

“A Nashville Christmas Carol” (4 p.m. Nov. 22, Hallmark Channel) was produced in Tennessee and North Carolina.

“U.S.S. Christmas” (10 p.m. Nov. 28, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) filmed in North Carolina and South Carolina.

The one Christmas movie produced pre-pandemic, “Christmas in Vienna” (6 p.m. Nov. 25, Hallmark Channel), filmed in Vienna, Austria, at the famous Christmas markets that were still up in early January.

Q: What channel is Sunday’s “Meet the Press” on if it’s pre-empted on WPXI?

— Beth, New Kensington

Rob: It’s still on Channel 11, just moved to an alternate available time slot. For instance, on Oct. 11, “Meet the Press” aired at 8 a.m. because of French Open tennis coverage.

Q: When will Comcast customers have access to HBO Max via an app? This statement has been on the HBO Max page on the Xfinity site since May: Later in 2020, you’ll also be able to watch the HBO Max app directly on Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Flex.” It’s November. How much later in 2020 will it be before this app appears? Have you heard anything?

— Linda, Monroeville

Rob: Viewers have been asking me — and I’ve been asking Comcast — since Comcast announced it would have an app for HBO Max “coming soon” in early summer. It still hasn’t arrived, and local Comcast representatives have no time table for when “soon” may finally come to pass.

Q: Twice recently, shows I tried to record on the Comcast DVR were not recorded due to programming changes by the network. On Nov. 7, I attempted to record two episodes of “Manhunt: Deadly Games” only to get two hours of political programming. On Nov. 8, I attempted to record the season premiere of “NCIS: Los Angeles” only to get mostly “60 Minutes” due to the Steelers game running late. Any idea why the Comcast DVR does not adjust and record the correct shows when there are programming changes?

Rob: DVRs record based on TV listing guides which simply don’t get updated fast enough for the DVR to make last-minute changes to recordings.

Because of football on CBS, it’s always advised to set a time extension for any Sunday primetime CBS shows when setting your DVR to record.

Filmed-in-Pittsburgh “Manhunt” was pre-empted for political news coverage on the East Coast (but not on the West Coast) and because the show’s ratings have been terrible — that’s why it was moved from Monday night to the Saturday graveyard — CBS opted not to rebroadcast the pre-empted episodes, instead directing viewers to watch them at CBS.com or via CBS All Access.

Q: When is HBO releasing the new “Perry Mason” series on DVD?

Rob: The first season of HBO’s “Perry Mason” reboot, already renewed for a second season, will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on Dec. 1.
