Hemingway’s Cafe, the popular bar along Forbes Avenue known for its cheap pitchers and lively trivia nights, is closing after more than four decades in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood.
The business will wind down in May, owner John Elavsky said in a social media post Thursday afternoon. He did not give an exact date.
“Since opening in 1983, Hemingway’s has been more than just a bar — it’s been a home, a meeting place, and an Oakland staple for generations of students, alumni, locals and friends at the heart of the University of Pittsburgh,” Elavsky said. “We are incredibly sad to be closing this chapter, but we are deeply grateful for over 40 years of memories, laughter, late nights, friendships and traditions shared within these walls.”
Elavsky could not be immediately reached for further comment.
Several other Oakland staples have closed in recent years, including gastropub Fuel and Fuddle, the Atwood Street location of Mad Mex and the Original Hot Dog Shoppe.
