In France, McDonald's ditches fries for cucumbers in Happy Meals

McDonald’s France
At McDonald’s locations in France, a report says Petits Concombres (“little cucumbers”) will be served instead of french fries.

Hopefully, the irony isn’t lost in translation.

Instead of french fries in its Happy Meals, young diners at McDonald’s restaurants in France will be getting Petits Concombres (“little cucumbers”), reports VegNews.

It’s all for the health of it’s customers.

“The arrival of the Little Cucumbers is fully in line with our approach to diversifying the range of products for children,” Delphine Smagghe, the company’s VP of purchasing, quality, sustainable development, and communication, told the site.

She said the cucumbers will be coming from 16 local farms in France.

“Today, nearly half of the fruit consumed by children under 15 years of age in commercial catering is at McDonald’s, Smagghe said. “From now on, we want to carry this commitment further by promoting vegetables to the youngest, while remaining a privileged partner of the French agricultural sectors.”

The McDonald’s locations in France currently offer grape tomatoes and carrot sticks as Happy Meal snack options.

Early this year, it was announced that the fast-food chain was developing vegan McNuggets.
