PPG struck a deal for the Pittsburgh-based company’s Glidden brand to become the primary paint brand at the world’s largest retailer.
The 3-year agreement expands PPG’s relationship with Walmart. Glidden products will include a new line of Grab-n-Go ready-to-use paint as well as tint-able paints and Olympic wood stain products that are already available in stores.
“This is a win for PPG and puts us in a position to be a great partner to Walmart and expand our business across the leading brands that we have,” said Jaime Irick, PPG vice president, architectural coatings U.S. and Canada.
The ready-to-use paint options will be available in 25 premixed colors reflecting the top-sellers in that category. As for the base paints, that line will feature “a curated selection of about 132 colors” that customers can choose for their tint, Irick said.
The rollout at more than 3,800 U.S. stores began April 3 and will continue through the week.
In addition to consumer products that shoppers can find in Walmart, Home Depot, Menards and at stand-alone PPG shops, the company also has business in construction, industrial and transportation markets.
The architectural coatings business — also known as the consumer paints side — is headquartered at the Allison Park Coatings Innovation Center in Hampton and its research and development facility is in Harmar.
