iPhones with TikTok app listed for thousands on eBay
Did you delete the TikTok app after it was briefly banned? Your only option may be to purchase a phone with the app already installed on eBay — but the priciest option is reportedly over $5 million.
After the viral video-sharing platform went dark last weekend, service was restored just hours later to users in the United States, with TikTok crediting President Donald Trump, the Associated Press reported.
TikTok said it shut down the platform late on Jan. 18 because of a federal law that required parent company ByteDance to sell its U.S. operation Jan. 19. Google and Apple also removed TikTok from their digital app stores.
Despite the quick turnaround that allowed users to once again interact with and consume the short-form videos, the app is still unavailable for download.
That means only those who installed the app prior to the recent ban can access it, People reported — skyrocketing the market for selling phones with the app.
On the lower end, bids are starting around $30 for some phones with the platform already downloaded, but to “Buy It Now” without the bidding process, the lowest prices are between $5,000 and $10,000, according to eBay. One outrageous listing for a phone topped $5 million.
There are over 33,000 search results on the website when looking for phones with TikTok installed.
The priciest options also include the video editing app CapCut, which is owned by the same Chinese company as TikTok, according to People.
However, it is unclear if the expensive phones people claim have TikTok downloaded are actually selling, USA Today reported.
Both TikTok and CapCut remain unavailable on the app store as of Monday.
