Looking for work? Here’s a sweet offer: How about a job as a Chocolate Taster.
It’s no joke. Mondelez International, which owns Cadbury and Oreos, is looking to pay someone to eat chocolate.
You read that right: Eating chocolate for money.
The job posting reads, “You will work alongside approximately 11 Chocolate Tasters and a panel leader; sharing opinions and collaborating with others to reach an agreement on taste. No experience is required as full training will be provided to develop your taste buds and the specific vocabulary required to communicate your opinions.”
Training? Wonder what that would entail?
The workouts would be rigorous.
The pay — yep, you’d actually get paid for this — converts to about $14.34 an hour.
As for the job requirements, you would need “a passion for confectionary and taste buds for detection.” They also are looking for workers who can give an honest opinion, are eager to try new things, and have a “firm grasp of the English Language.”
Sadly, those dietary restrictions or certain food allergies are probably out of the running — many of the products contain gluten, nuts and dairy.
As for other drawbacks, the office is in Wokingham, England. So, that would be a commute. And it’s just part-time — with 7½- and 8-hour shifts.
The Manchester Evening News talked to one worker, Traci, who was lucky enough to be chosen as a chocolate taster. “I really love my job, it suits my lifestyle and all my friends are naturally quite envious,” she says. “I really look forward to the sessions, there is a lot more to being a Chocolate Taster than you might think, we have to identify really slight differences in smell, texture and even how the chocolate feels in your mouth.”
It’s not all fun and games, people.
And remember, not all jobs that involve chocolate turn out so well.
