Better-Maid Donut is closing its Steuben Street location in Crafton Heights.

A popular Pittsburgh doughnut shop has shut down its current location, but has plans to open a new storefront.

Better-Maid Donut, in a social media post Tuesday, said the business could not come to an agreement with its landlord to purchase the Crafton Heights shop it now operates along Steuben Street.

“And as the building continues to fall apart and the junk piles up in the parking lot, the rent increases still continue to come,” the shop wrote.

Better-Maid’s final day at the Steuben Street site was Sunday.

However, the business won’t be closed forever.

“We will be moving to a new building close to the old shop,” the social media post continued. “We do not have a reopening date yet as things need built out and renovated, but we will update as everything progresses.”

According to the social media post, the business owners had hoped to fix up the Crafton Heights property.

They had plans to paint the building pink, pave the parking lot and “churn out more and more donuts.”

“This past year plus has been wonderful and the supporting of the local community and Pittsburgh in general has been amazing! We greatly appreciate that has stopped out, waited in line, and supported our small business,” Better-Maid’s Facebook post said. “We will be back as soon as possible, and have a beautiful new space to show off.”
