A former family-owned and -operated upscale wine lounge and restaurant is for sale in Rankin.

Mary’s Vine closed in October. A Facebook post last week announced that the business, housed in a former Catholic church, is on the market for $5.3 million.

Listing agent Jim Jarrett of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services did not return multiple messages seeking comment.

The “turnkey-ready” sale includes the property at 211 Kenmawr Ave., all furnishings, and a liquor license. The building is the former Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church.

The wine bar and restaurant opened in 2019 and operated for seven months until the pandemic forced its closure. It reopened in March 2022 with a larger kitchen and an upscale cigar bar.

The property is co-owned by Cheryl Stasinowsky and her husband Walter, their son Jordan Stasinowsky, daughter Amber Smith and her husband Daniel Smith. The Stasinowskys were not available for comment.

The family relocated to Pittsburgh from Sacramento and bought the former Catholic church, which was built in 1904, from the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh in 2018 for $50,000.

Many Rankin locals refer to the former church, which closed in 2011, as St. Mary’s. The family chose to include the Mary name to honor the community.

Mary’s Vine patron and family friend, Kortney Berg, noted the location in Rankin may have been a geographic challenge for the wine lounge.

“I do hope that whoever buys it appreciates it. The location is not the most desirable, but neighborhoods change all the time,” Berg said.

Berg loved the cigar lounge and is optimistic that the right buyer will continue Mary’s Vine concept.

“I’m hopeful that it goes into the right hands and reopens. I think it’s a gem,” Berg said.

According to the online listing, the commercial property includes three parcels and is described as being impeccably restored and a destination-worthy restaurant, wine and cigar lounge that includes a terrace bar.

Berg said the former church made for a very cool and unique dining venue.

“Every time I walked in there, it was just so welcoming. It’s an amazing building and they had a wonderful chef,” Berg said. “The family and staff were very accommodating. They put their heart and soul into it.”
