The spud scene is apparently set to grow in Lawrenceville.

Mr. Friez is a soon-to-open eatery specializing in french fries à la Belgian style, located at 4213 Butler St.

Last month, a contractor told a TribLive reporter that Mr. Friez is expected to open “within weeks” but an opening date is not available.

According to Allegheny Health Department spokesperson Ronnie Das, Mohammed Azmerli is listed as the contact for Mr. Friez.

Azmerli did not return multiple requests for comment and no social media/Internet presence on Mr. Friez has been found.

But a visit to the storefront last week found ongoing renovations and storefront signage that include plenty of colorful bags of faux potatoes amid a large, oversized yellow fry cup adorned with a whimsical black mustache.

A large windowfront poster depicting Belgian fries reads “Opening Soon Belgian Fries” and says the fries will be freshly made and quickly served.

Belgian fries (or frites) are cut thicker and are fried twice in animal fat and served with a mayonnaise-based sauce.

Editor’s note: This article has been updated to correct the spelling of Mr. Friez.
