Have a drink and a smoke at Enix Brewing in Homestead.
The brewery and restaurant will introduce the Enix Cigar Club with the assistance of cigar expert Josh Mills of the Tobacconist.
“There are so many different flavors of cigars from spicy to sweet,” Mills told the Tribune-Review. “And there are thousands of cigars to choose from. I try as many cigars as I can and see how they pair with beer and wine and cocktails.”
He said finding the right pairing is similar to combining the best food to eat with a particular drink.
The idea came from Enix co-owners, and brothers, David Rodriguez and Victor Rodriguez, who enjoy cigars. The brothers wanted to invite customers to enjoy a cigar with their favorite drink, said Lavinia Oancea, David Rodriguez’s wife, and the brewery’s marketing director.
Cigars and drinks will be enjoyed on the patio for select Wednesday evenings during this summer and a weekend event to end the season in early October. The first is from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The Dwayne Dolphin Trio will perform.
Mills said to prepare for the cigar club launch, he has been doing research on which cigars pair well with a beer, glass of wine or a cocktail.
Most cigars will be priced between $5 and $12. Guests can also bring their own cigars.
Each date will feature a different theme, and participants will have the opportunity to enjoy fine cigars, excellent beer, and authentic Spanish cuisine while listening to live entertainment, said Oancea.
Enix and The Tobacconist have created this club as a means to bring people together to enjoy themselves, network, and relax, Oancea said.
The brewery also has live entertainment each month both inside and at the outside beer garden.
Enix opened in August. It’s the third such establishment for the brothers, who have two other locations in Spain — Fabrica Maravillas and Mad Brewing.
David Rodriguez knows something about beer, having attended brewing school in Chicago at Siebel Institute of Technology. Victor Rodriguez handles the financial side of the business.
As master brewer at Enix, David Rodriguez told the Tribune-Review in a previous story that a brewery needs excellent beer to survive.
“I love all the flavors — they are like my children,” he said. “There is a lot of science involved in brewing. We believe our atmosphere is different. We went the extra mile to build an interesting space, a nice clean design.”
Enix is located in a 1906 building which was the former Levine Brothers Hardware Store. It encompasses 18,000 square feet, with another 4,000 square feet of the patio.
The beers change seasonally.
The food menu is Spanish inspired .There is also a full bar with wine and spirits, some from Pennsylvania.
Enix Brewing is located at 337 East 8th Ave., Homestead.
