Oktoberfests on tap in Western Pennsylvania
Munich’s Oktoberfest celebration kicks off Saturday and runs through Oct. 5. If you didn’t book a flight overseas, you can still don lederhosen, grab a beer stein and celebrate German culture right here in Western Pennsylvania. A slew of festivals are happening across the region, in addition to the many craft breweries with Oktoberfest brews and events on tap.
Pennsylvania Bavarian Oktoberfest
This event’s claim to fame is that it was named one of the Top Ten Oktoberfest Celebrations in the country. Running Friday through Sunday on Pike Street in Canonsburg, the event features multiple live music stages, a barrage of food and beer vendors, games and rides for children and more. Live musical acts over the course of the festival include SNPJ Button Box, The Garrett Tatano Band, Ruff Creek, Totally 80’s and the Washington Symphony Orchestra. Murrysville-Export Rotary Club Oktoberfest
Head to White Valley Park in Murrysville on Saturday for an Oktoberfest that’s fun for all ages. German food, beer and wine, as well as live music by The Kosmix Band, will take place from 3-8 p.m. Children’s activities, including a bounce house, Bella Terra Stables therapy horses and more are part of the festivities.

Downtown Indiana Oktoberfest
The 14th annual Downtown Indiana Oktoberfest runs 2-6 p.m. Saturday at N. Eighth Street in the S&T Bank auxiliary parking lot. Tickets are $30 and attendees must be 21. Food vendors, regional breweries and a DJ are all on tap for the festivities.

Penn Brewery Oktoberfest
Running Friday and Saturday and again Sept. 26-27 at the Penn Brewery on Pittsburgh’s North Side, the fun actually starts with a kick-off party on Sept. 18. All events feature free admission and free parking, and VIP tickets are available. Guests over 21 can enjoy Penn Brewery’s Oktoberfest, Penn Pilsner, Penn Gold, Soergel’s x Penn Pumpkin Shandy and more. Authentic German schnitzels, sausage baguettes, local homemade pierogis, fresh pretzels and more are on the menu. Live music includes The Heritage Band (formerly Autobahn), Kevin Solecki, the Polkamaniacs, Wally Merriman and more.

Pittsburgh Brewing Oktobertest
Pittsburgh Brewing’s second Oktoberfest session is noon-10 p.m. Sept. 27 at the East Deer brewery. Festivities include authentic German food, limited release beers (including Herman’s Best Oktoberfest) and live music. The event will be held rain or shine. Oktoberfest Pittsburgh
Running Oct. 2-12 on Fort Duquesne Boulevard and the Sixth Street Bridge in Downtown Pittsburgh, Oktoberfest Pittsburgh offers free admission with tickets required for select activities. A biergarten featuring authentic German fare and brews, a stein-holding contest, karneval-style games and live polka music are all on tap. A Ferris Wheel will be situated on the Roberto Clemente Bridge.

Concordia Lutheran Ministries Oktoberfest
Concordia Lutheran Ministries will sponsor its annual Oktoberfest from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 4 at Haven I at Concordia, 112 Marwood Road. There will be German food, a flu shot and blood pressure clinic, free children’s activities, hayrides and a bake sale. Music from 4 to 7:30 p.m. by the Mikey Dee Polka Band and a fireworks display will start at 7:45 p.m. Free parking and shuttle service are available. Details: 724-352-8268.
