As part of its national expansion announced this week, PrimoHoagies will open its first restaurants in the Pittsburgh region.

The hoagie chain is set to open a franchise at 1600 Smallman St. in Pittsburgh’s Strip District by 2022. Another restaurant is planned at 4080 Washington Road in Peters Township.

Specializing in Italian-style sandwiches, PrimoHoagies bakes its own bread every two hours. It also uses Thumann’s meats and cheeses, as well as locally sourced produce that is freshly chopped every day.

There are dozens of the casual restaurant in the greater Philadelphia and New Jersey area, with locations already open or soon to open in Colorado, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.
