People — and this time of year, trick-or-treaters — really like peanut butter cups.
Far and away the favorite candy bar in a new poll was Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, with 36% of respondents picking it as their favorite.
Snickers are OK, too, with 18% picking that as their favorite. M&M’s round out the top three at 11%. The other five candies in the poll only received a smattering of votes for favorite candy bar: Hershey bars (6%), candy corn (6%), Skittles (5%), Starburst (4%) and Tootsie Pops (2%).
The poll was conducted by Monmouth University of West Long Branch, N.J., last month with telephone calls to 1,161 adults in the U.S.
“Candy corn even making the list may surprise some people, but it is one of the top-selling Halloween candies in the country,” Patrick Murray, director of the Monmouth University Polling Institute, said in a release. “We don’t know if it’s one of the top-eaten candies, but it does have a fan base.”
The poll also found that 8% of respondents ranked Halloween as their favorite holiday of the year and another 37% said it is one of their favorite holidays. But a majority (53%) said it is not a favorite holiday for them.
“It’s a split decision on Halloween. Nearly half the country ranks it up there with their top holidays, while the other half could do without it,” Murray said.
