Primanti Bros. has permanently closed its restaurant location along Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Garfield neighborhood.

A notice of the closure was seen posted on the door of the eatery Wednesday, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.

The location first opened in 2017, at the site of the former Verde restaurant.

In a statement released to the station, a company spokesperson said, “Through the normal course of business, we continually evaluate our portfolio to ensure our restaurants have the resources to achieve their growth potential. We have known this lease agreement was ending, and after careful consideration, we made the decision not to renew the lease and instead focus on our four other locations within Pittsburgh city limits.”

Those other locations are Downtown and in the Strip District, Oakland and South Side.

Primanti Bros. operates more than 40 locations, mostly in Pennsylvania. Additional restaurants are in West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland, including a location that opened last year in the Baltimore area.

Primanti Bros. opened in 1933 in the Strip District. At the time, Joe Primanti had a lunch cart and sold sandwiches to truck drivers. He eventually expanded into a brick-and-mortar store with his two brothers and nephew.
