Shake Shack to open restaurant in Pittsburgh’s Strip District
The popular burger chain Shake Shack is finally making its way to Western Pennsylvania.
New York-based Shake Shack will debut its first Pittsburgh restaurant at The Terminal in the Strip District sometime in 2024, according to a news release from the development company McCaffery.
“Pittsburgh friends, we know it’s taken far too long to bring Shake Shack to this dynamic city,” Shake Shack chief development officer Andrew McCaughan said in a statement. “We are thrilled to land the first Shack in the Steel City at The Terminal in the iconic Strip District.”
The chain was founded in New York City in 2004 and has attracted a cult following since. It is known for its made-to-order burgers, crispy chicken sandwiches, cheese fries and desserts including milkshakes and frozen custard. Shake Shack has 12 locations in Pennsylvania, all in the Philadelphia area.
Shake Shack joins many other new additions to The Terminal building. The $50 million Terminal opened in 2020 and has attracted national and local businesses, including Virginia-based Aslin Brewery, mini-golf venue Puttshack and Lawrenceville-based plant store City Grows.
The burger chain will join other national eateries like Chipotle and PrimoHoagies with locations at The Terminal.
Shake Shack has 430 locations worldwide, including more than 285 restaurants in 32 states and Washington, D.C.
