TribLive Taste Test: Dutch snacks!
Dutch snacks? But why, you ask?
Well, as we all know, Jan. 30 of this year marks the 372nd anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Westphalia in 1648. It brought an end to the Eighty Years’ War between the Dutch and Spanish and the arrival of Dutch independence after years of rule under the Habsburg monarchy.
Oh, you weren’t aware?
Well then, just do as we did and use it as a perfectly good excuse to try a bunch of candy from the Netherlands, which arrived at Taste Test team member Patrick Varine’s house in the form of this month’s Universal Yums treat box.
And being that Holland is Scandinavia-adjacent, that unfortunately means that any one of these snacks could have a heavy dose of black licorice, which is bad news for the Taste Test squad.
