The plant-based Beyond Burger, produced in partnership with Beyond Meat, is now available at Sheetz stores.

Many a grillmaster bristles at the mere notion of putting a plant-based patty over their cherished charcoal.

But with the rise of not just vegetarian burgers but now meat substitutes, the TribLIVE Taste Test team had to go and find out whether the new wave of plant-based meat analogs could ever possibly stack up to taste of a freshly grilled beef burger.

We tried the Impossible Whopper, available at Burger King, as well as the Beyond Meat burger available at Sheetz. And to make sure we had a solid baseline, we also picked up a regular good ol’-fashioned hamburger.

When it comes to nutrition, there’s not a huge difference, so eating one of these plant-based burgers is more about wanting the familiar taste, as opposed to wanting a healthy alternative.

Both members of the team were pretty skeptical about the taste. Will it be a Christmas miracle? You’ll have to watch the video to find out!
