Disney on Ice
Americans young and old have been captivated by the figure skating at the Winter Olympics for the past couple of weeks. Now you can combine the magic of on-ice antics with your favorite Disney characters.
This Disney on Ice show is titled “Road Trip Adventures” and will give audiences the chance to travel with Mickey and friends through the exciting new worlds of Disney characters. From “The Lion King” to “Toy Story” and beyond, the costumes, characters and skating will magically transport you.
Shows will be held at PPG Paints Arena on Friday at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Get tickets at disneyonice.com.
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s ‘America 250’
Everyone is celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States this year, including Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre with their “America 250” performance this weekend. The show will include a series of dances, from “The Mighty Casey” to “Stars and Stripes Pas de Deux” to “Company B.”
The program will move from celebratory to solemn and back again, with different styles of dance and pulling from several eras of American history and culture. All of the dances are performed by world-class Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre artists and accompanied by the fantastic PBT Orchestra.
Performances will be held Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., as well as Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m., all at the Benedum Center in Downtown Pittsburgh. To learn more and get tickets, visit pbt.org.
Pittsburgh Winter Beerfest
Warm up with some winter beers this weekend at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Downtown Pittsburgh. The festival will include more than 150 local breweries, wineries and distilleries, all there to hand out samples and show off their newest creations. Food vendors will also be on site to provide tasty accompaniments to the sips.
There will be two sessions, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Guests can choose from early admission tickets, which give you an extra hour of tasting and exploring time; regular admission; and designated driver tickets, which entitle the holder to free water and soft drinks. The event will be held Saturday with sessions beginning at 1 and 7:30 p.m. at the convention center. Learn more at pittsburghbeerfest.com.
Cupid’s Undie Run
Walk (or, rather, run) a mile in your undies for a good cause this Saturday. Register as an individual or join a team, show up to party beforehand and then strip down and start running for a fundraiser.
The party starts at McFadden’s on the North Shore, where there will be a drinking-and-dancing party, followed by about a mile run to raise funds. The cause in question is NF, a group of genetic conditions that can cause tumors to grow in nerves throughout the body. It can have a number of negative effects, including blindness, deafness, cancer, chronic pain and other impacts.
The party/run will go from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at McFadden’s on the North Shore. Learn more and register at cupids.org.
