Summer vacation is coming to an end — if it hasn’t already — even if it’s still blazing hot outside. Get some family time in with these events around Pittsburgh this weekend.

Pittsburgh Water Lantern Festival

This festival is both a fun and a meaningful experience for attendees. Held at Allegheny Commons Park West on the North Side, participants will get to write out messages on a paper lantern (hopes, dreams, a letter to a loved one or anything they want to send into the world) and then set it onto the water in the park along with everyone else’s lantern.

The event will also include food trucks, activities and music. While the festival starts at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the lanterns themselves will launch at around sunset. Each general admission ticket includes entry to the festival, a lantern kit, a scavenger hunt entry and other extras. And yes, the lanterns are collected and safely disposed of after the festival’s end.

TacoMania Super Fest

Beers of the Burgh is bringing this delicious and exciting event to the South Side on Saturday. Not only does this SouthSide Works-set event include 15 of the city’s best eateries providing tasty bites for purchase, but there will also be live entertainment by Enjoy Wrestling, with the Pittsburgh area’s best pro wrestlers bringing their talents to the festival.

In addition to the two sessions of wrestling madness, there will also be live music and DJs keeping the crowd hyped up. Food vendors will include Vaya Mexican Street Food, Brisketburgh, La Palapa and Slice on Broadway. The event will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., but those with early entry tickets can get in at 2 p.m. To learn more and get tickets, visit beersoftheburgh.com.

Flower Fest

Armful of Flowers, an urban flower farm and design studio on Mt. Washington, will hold its third annual Flower Fest this Sunday.

The event will last from noon to 5 p.m. and include vendors, makers, food, beverages and more, all with flowery themes to some of their items. On the Armful of Flowers farm, they will hold a ‘U-Pick” event, a butterfly tent, a pollinator walk and a flower design contest. There will be other activities and tons to enjoy for people of all ages.

The event will take place on Bingham Street on Mt. Washington this Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. To learn more, see the Facebook event here.

RiverLife Party at the Pier

Step into a dreamscape at this year’s 16th RiverLife Party at the Pier. The fundraiser and innovative party will take place on the rooftop terrace of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Downtown Pittsburgh.

General admission tickets are $175 and VIP tickets are $300. The event will accentuate the vision of the rivers with art installations and immersive design. There will also be music from DJs and live performers, as well as themed bites and craft cocktails. Make sure you dress in your dreamy best.

The event will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday for regular admission, with a VIP ticketholder reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the event can be purchased at partyatthepier.com.

Dave Attell at the Pittsburgh Improv

Here’s one for just the grown-ups. Comedian Dave Attell — your favorite stand-up’s favorite stand-up — will be performing four 21+ shows at the Pittsburgh Improv in Homestead this weekend.

Attell is known for hosting the beloved Comedy Central show “Insomniac with Dave Attell” back in the network’s heyday. He’s released six stand-up specials since 1996, including “Dave Attell: Hot Cross Buns,” which was released earlier this year on Netflix.

Shows will be held at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and 6:30 and 9 p.m. Saturday at the Pittsburgh Improv. For tickets, visit improv.com/pittsburgh.
