Here are 5 things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend: Dec. 12-14
The temperature just keeps dropping, but the ‘Burgh shows no sign of stopping! There’s lots to do and see this weekend all around town, so don’t miss out just because of a chill. Here are a few must-dos this weekend.
Holiday storytelling show
The holidays can be a complicated time — some have nothing but merry memories, but some dread the darker days of the year. This storytelling show, hosted by John McIntire, will include a mixed Santa’s sack of stories about this time of year.
Participating storytellers include documentarian Rick Sebak, County Councilwoman Bethany Hallam and talk show host Lynn Cullen, in addition to McIntire himself. Get ready to share in festive cheer and commiserate on hard times, all in one evening.
The show will be held at the Parkway Theater in McKees Rocks on Saturday at 8 p.m. Entry is $20 and there will be a full bar and snacks available. To learn moe, visit communityreelartscenter.org.
Grist House Fire Fest
What better way to warm up than a big bonfire on a frigid night? Grist House Craft Brewery in Millvale will host its annual Fire Fest this Saturday, the seventh iteration of this iconic event.
In addition to an array of fire pits and indoor/outdoor seating, guests can enjoy specialty stouts and hot cocktails, delicious food truck bites for purchase, glass blowing demonstrations by the Pittsburgh Glass Center, fire performances and more fun.
The festival will take place from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday at Grist House’s Millvale location. To learn more, visit gristhouse.com.
‘A Sherlock Carol’
This heartwarming play by Kinetic Theatre will put even the crankiest Scrooge into the holiday spirit. Playwright Mark Shanahan smashes together two classic characters — Sherlock Holmes and Scrooge — for a delightful and intriguing Yuletide mystery.
Starring actor David Whalen, this play features a cast of talented actors as favorite characters and even a little bit of cheery music. “A Sherlock Carol” will be on the Carnegie Stage in Carnegie this weekend and will run through Dec. 21, so make time in your schedule for this show. Winter Pottery Pop-Up
This free event will bring together local ceramic artists and holiday shoppers at the Union Project in Highland Park. Whether you need a cool piece for your own holiday decor or you’re looking for a totally unique gift, this is a perfect chance to support a community of artists and find something special.
Makers and studios, including Fabled Cermaics, Milo Berezin Cermaics, Charles Lehman Artwork and more than a dozen others, will set up with their latest and best wares. There will also be warm beverages and cookies to sip and munch while you shop.
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Union Project. Learn more about all of the artists at unionproject.org.

Maybe you’d prefer to bop while you shop, or maybe you have a music lover on your list. Head out again on Sunday to Spirit in Lawrenceville for Record Fest, a celebration of vinyl and music.
They’ll have records of all types and genres for sale from dozens of sellers so that you can find anyone’s favorite artist. Additionally, DJs will be spinning tunes all day to get you in the musical mood. There will be drink and food specials throughout, as well as giveaways.
