Here are 5 things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend: May 16-18
It’s the middle of May with nice, toasty temperatures on tap for the weekend. There are great chances to hang outside — or inside, if you prefer — at these events around town.
Pierogi festival
Pittsburgh loves pierogis, so why wouldn’t we have a whole festival dedicated to these delicious dumplings? The Pittsburgh Pierogi Festival is back this weekend for another year of filling fun.
The festival will be held at the SouthSide Works on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. It will feature a variety of pierogi and pierogi-inspired dishes from chefs, restaurants and food purveyors from around the region, all showing their appreciation for one of the city’s favorite foods.
The festival will also host a pierogi marketplace full of fun merch and unique goods. Don’t pass up on a tasty beverage with local brews and cocktails, and partake in festival activities and more.

Barks and Brews
Get your best canine friend and head to the Federal Galley on the North Side for this dog-friendly event. On Saturday afternoon, all the coolest dogs will be hanging out here.
Turn your pet into a supermodel with a $10 photo booth from Tails & Scales FURtography or purchase a delicious Galley IPA. And bring a gently used toy for a toy drive with Barkhived Toys to be entered for a raffle prize. Some proceeds from photo booth and Galley IPA sales will go towards Bark About It Rescue to help even more pups.
The event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Federal Galley on the North Side. See more at the Facebook event here.
Monster Jam
It’s always a beautiful weekend to see some really big trucks do crazy stuff. Monster Jam is back in Pittsburgh on Saturday at Acrisure Stadium on the North Shore.
Bring the whole family to watch trucks — including Gravedigger, El Toro Loco and Megalodon — race, participate in skills competitions and show off their best stunts. There will be a Pit Party at 12:30 p.m. and the event itself will begin at 5 p.m., making for a perfect day outdoors for all.
The Pit Party, which is ticketed separately, will give fans a chance to see the trucks and drivers up close and even get autographs. Tickets for Monster Jam and the Pit Party can be purchased at monsterjam.com.
Uptown Community Day
Pittsburgh’s Uptown neighborhood will hold a Community Day Festival Saturday to bring everyone together for a day of fun.
The community day will feature performances from DJ BusCrates and Zapology Music, a vendor market with a variety of local goods, and refreshments from Moonlit Burgers, Sahar’s Food Truck, Little Tony’s Market and Trace Brewing will be available for purchase. And don’t forget to enter the raffles for gift cards and other prizes.
The event will take place between Fifth and Forbes on Van Braam Street in the Uptown neighborhood from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Facebook event has more details here.
