Holiday cheer: The Tipsy Elf serves festive drinks at Greenfield pop-up bar

The Tipsy Bar in Greenfield will be decorated for the Christmas season where guests can enjoy holiday cheer.

It’s advertised as a “No Grinches Allowed” establishment.

The Tipsy Elf is a Christmas-themed pop-up bar that opened its doors on Nov. 24 in Greenfield.

The sparkling holiday space is at 557 Greenfield Ave., next door to Hough’s Taproom & Brewpub.

There’s Christmas music, festive decorations and holiday drinks. Guests might even catch a glimpse of Santa Claus and his elves.

The halls will be decked with baubles, bows, trees and wreaths.

John Hough, co-owner of Hough’s — along with his son Matt, said they are grateful for this opportunity. The main bar will still be open.

The 1,600-square feet of space they are leasing out for The Tipsy Elf is the former Copper Kettle Brewing Co. and includes an adjacent room with a bar.

There might be opportunities to do catering because the holiday space can be reserved for private parties, John Hough said. The cost of those events is based on the day, number of guests and other factors, said Shelley Allen, who handles public relations and communications for Hidden Media Network, which is based in Australia, via email. According to its website, Hidden Media Network Hidden is a marketplace for live and virtual experiences in various cities across the world.

It coordinates with a network of promoters in each location to find spaces and decorate them in various themes. Back in September, Hidden Media Network had The Alice, a tea party bar at 705 Liberty Ave., Downtown Pittsburgh. Allen said there are plans for another pop-up experience in February in Pittsburgh called Neverland, a Peter Pan-inspired bar complete with Tinker Bell and Captain Hook.

“It is going to be really nice,” John Hough said back in September. “I can’t wait to see it.”

The Tipsy Elf’s hours are 5:30, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, and 3, 5, 7 and 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sunday through Dec. 30.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here. Entry is for 90 minutes and includes one drink.

Allen said Hidden Media Network reached out to several local bars about possible locations, and those venues provided video tours. The scouting team decided on this spot, which is easily accessible from the Parkway East.

John and Matt Hough said they understand this Greenfield space is the largest of any of the pop-up bars in the area for Hidden Media Network.

It is a drink-only establishment. All sessions are ticketed and timed to control capacity and allow for cleaning to sanitize the area, Allen said.
