Kennywood will host Phantom Fall Fest weekends in October

Kennywood on Friday announced a new Halloween-inspired experience.

Phantom Fall Fest debuts on Oct. 1.

It combines two events the park has held in the past – Phantom Fright Nights and Happy Hauntings.

There will be daylight activities for families and scarier experiences for others at night.

“Phantom Fall Fest will be the perfect balance between new, fun experiences for families and Halloween frights at night, preserving the award-winning spooky atmosphere Kennywood is known for,” said general manager Mark Pauls in a statement.

For the first time the West Mifflin park will be open day and night on Saturdays and Sundays in October as well as Friday evenings, management said.

Kiddieland, Thomas Town and other family areas will be open but will close at 6 on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be five haunted houses and four scare zones, according to Kennywood.

The festival will feature more than 30 rides, themed activities and new food choices.

A new food and drink lineup will include turkey legs, pumpkin funnel cakes, seasonal beers, specialty cocktails, and a host of special dining selections around the park.

The popular Potato Patch will still be open.

“With Phantom Fall Fest, guests can enjoy different and delicious dining experiences,” said Kennywood culinary director Ed Reams in a statement.

The event extends Kennywood’s season 15 days.

Gold and Platinum Season Passes will offer unlimited visits to Phantom Fall Fest. Single day tickets will be available here.

“We are very excited to be bringing back a more normal schedule this year,” said Kennywood spokesman Nick Paradise. “Visiting Kennywood for Halloween has become a tradition for people. This year we are offering something fresh and new. We are having more seasonal food offerings. And our hours are longer so there is more time for fun stuff and scary stuff.”

Idlewild & Soak Zone is bringing back Hallowboo! starting Sept. 25. The kid-friendly Halloween event features trick-or-treating through Story Book Forest, costumed characters, themed rides and mazes. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 25-26 and Oct. 2-3, 9-10, 16-17, 23-24 and 30-31.

Phantom Fall Fest hours will be 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and noon to 11 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 10 p.m. Sundays starting Oct. 1-31.

Kennywood and Ildewild & Soak Zone will follow covid-19 recommendations set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
