Ligonier Valley Writers will lead a free program on family writing projects from 1-3 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Ligonier Valley Library, 120 E. Main St.

The program is aimed at parents or grandparents and children ages 4 and up, but adults who write for children or others interested in using writing to build family bonds are welcome, the writers group says.

The session will start with children’s librarian Heather Oates leading the group in a fun hands-on activity to help jump-start creative writing ideas.

“We’ll have all kinds of stuff like buttons, clothespins, little wooden people and feathers for kids to use to tell their stories,” says Oates, who also will model the process by creating a quick story of her own.

LVW president Jim Busch then will offer tips on inspiring family members to write together and talk about the importance of sharing family history.

Kylie Manning and Randy Kopka, a local daughter-and-father writing and illustrating duo, then will read and discuss a book they published together.

The session, presented in conjunction with the library, will end with an opportunity for kids to share their writing with the group.
