Shopping for items with designer names attached to them typically means a hefty price tag will be attached as well.

Not so for the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra’s fundraising Cheap ‘N Chic event, set for 6-8 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road.

“It’s back by popular demand,” co-chair Jo Ellen Numerick says of the biennial event.

And for the first time, she adds, the sale will be open to the public.

The shopping event rolls out fine pre-owned couture, including designer handbags, jewelry, jackets and accessories.

Numerick handles the merchandise and co-chair Jill Briercheck oversees ticket sales.

“We have basically the high end — some Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Ferragamo. We have the biggest names in fashion here,” Numerick says. “We have beautiful costume jewelry, furs, scarves, some belts. My focus was on getting high end name.”

Numerick finds a lot of sale items on what she calls her favorite website, therealreal.com, a luxury consignment site.

“Sometimes they will have 80% off. I was able to get a lot of beautiful things cheaply,” she says.

Donors are generous with items as well. Acquiring pieces that way means they are one-of-a-kind to the sale, Numerick adds.

The majority of the items are classic and current, rather than vintage.

“These are things you couldn’t find around here,” she says.

Included are a Louis Vuitton woman’s briefcase, a white fur and leather jacket from Saks Fifth Avenue, a cashmere sweater with a fox collar, a small Chanel handbag and an Italian design, hand-crafted Marni necklace.

Clothing and accessories that sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars will go at a deep discount, Numerick says.

Jackets are priced in the $20-$45 range, handbags and jewelry, she says, will be “very affordable.”

While they enjoy champagne and shopping, guests also can indulge in hors d’oeuvres, beverages and desserts selected by event volunteers Joan Stairs and Carol Zera.

All proceeds benefit WSO programs.

Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door.
