Yinzer Cards offers this Valentine greeting for Pittsburgh Penguin fans.

The Yinzer Cards Valentine’s Day line eschews the hearts and flowers of the typical Valentine’s card in favor of greetings tailored to a local audience.

“They are not exactly your grandmother’s Valentine greeting card or candy,” said Pittsburgh-based comedian Jim Krenn, who started the card line in 2018 with radio personality Larry Richert and cartoonist Rob Rogers. “We wanted to strike a more casual and fun tone with a new kind of card.”

The creative group, along with founder and managing partner Dick Roberts, wanted to offer Pittsburghers cards that sound and feel like home.

The first puts a twist on the iconic candy heart, inviting the recipient to “be mine ‘n at.” The inside declares “Nothing says ‘I Love Yinz’ like some conversation hearts!” and features a box of Yinzer Hearts with sayings like “Redd Up,” “No Jagoffs,” “Git Aht,” “Nebby 4U” and “Crazy ‘Baht Yinz.”

A second features a man celebrating “a love yinz can’t hide” when “it’s like finding parking on the Sathside.”

“And we couldn’t forget about the love affair with the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Krenn said.

A third card depicts a heart-shaped football, along with the words, “Roses are red, violets are blue,” and on the inside, “My heart belongs to the Stillers but you’re definitely number two!”

Hockey fans also get some love with a card depicting a penguin hugging the Stanley Cup.

This Valentine’s Day card from Yinzer Cards shows who’s first in the hearts of many Pittsburghers.

Some of the designs are new this year, while others are returning, Roberts said.

“We offered the conversation hearts card for the first time last year,” he said. “It was a really popular card with people.”

A portion of Yinzer Card proceeds benefits Animal Friends, a nonprofit companion animal resource center serving Western Pennsylvania for 75 years.

“Jimmy (Krenn) has had a 30-year relationship with Animal Friends, and it’s a very good cause,” Roberts said.

The Valentine’s Day Yinzer Cards are available in the greeting card departments of Pittsburgh-area Giant Eagle, Market District and Hallmark stores and online at yinzercards.com.
