Pittsburgh police investigate the scene of a fatal shooting on Kedron Avenue in the city’s Homewood section on Sunday, March 13, 2022.

One person was killed and two others were injured in separate shootings overnight Sunday in Pittsburgh, authorities said.

The first happened around 10 p.m. on Kedron Street in the city’s Homewood section. Police responded to a ShotSpotter notification and found a man in his late 50s who had been shot in the head. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as 58-year-old Johnnie Lee Higgins of Homewood.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, said Public Safety spokeswoman Cara Cruz.

About an hour later, Cruz said, authorities received word that a man had walked into a hospital on the city’s North Side with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Shortly after that, someone called 911 to report a man calling for help near Island Avenue and Preble Avenue.

Officers found a man who Cruz said had been shot multiple times and come out of the river. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

She said it’s not clear yet whether the North Side shootings were related. There were no suspects or witnesses in the Homewood homicide as of early Monday.
