A man was killed early Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Hampton, state police at Gibsonia said.

The victim, Richard F. Krupka, 55, of Maple Heights, died as a result of injuries suffered in an accident two miles from the Butler Valley exit in Hampton, Allegheny County Medical Examiner and police said. Krupka was pronounced dead at Allegheny General Hospital at about 2 a.m.

Krupka was traveling westbound in the left lane around 12:15 a.m. near mile marker 38.2, when he lost control of the vehicle and hit the center barrier multiple times, before stopping in the westbound lanes, facing south, police said. A vehicle traveling in the westbound lanes hit Krupka’s vehicle on the driver’s side door, police said.

Police did not identify the driver of the other vehicle or the model of Krupka’s vehicle.

The crash shutdown all westbound lanes from the Allegheny Valley interchange to Butler Valley while state police investigated. The westbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike reopened just after 5 a.m. Tuesday.
