1 injured in Braddock fire; resident says candles may have sparked it
Firefighters in Braddock were working Friday morning to extinguish a fire at a home on Ninth Street.
The fire in the two-story home was reported shortly before 3:30 a.m., Tribune-Review news partner WPXI reports.
Within minutes of arriving on scene, the fire was raised to two-alarm to summon more manpower as first responders encountered flames and heavy smoke coming from all sides of the building, according to emergency dispatchers.
A man who lives in the house with his niece told WPXI they both were able to escape from the house but that she suffered a burn to her hands and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
He said the home’s utilities have been off for about two weeks and the woman was burning candles on the second floor.
The man said the home has been in his family for 40 years.
Firefighters were still on scene working to put out the fire as of 7 a.m.
