Two Republicans and two Democrats will fill four open seats on the North Allegheny School Board this year, with no more than a 200 vote spread among all candidates, according to unofficial returns from the Allegheny County Elections Division for the Nov. 2 race.

Democrats Leslie Britton Dozier and Paige Hardy will join the school board along with Republicans Vidya Szymkowiak, 48, and incumbent Rick McClure, 64.

Dozier and Hardy received 8,244 and 8,204 votes, respectively, followed by Szymkowiak with 8,201 votes and McClure with 8,172.

The results were very close among all eight candidates.

Republican Joe Wall received 8,103 votes, Democrats Sylvana Bonner with 8,086 and Jon Parker with 8,083, and Republican Greg Casten with 8,049.

The top four finishers won seats on the board.

Dozier, Hardy, Szymkowiak will join NASD school board members Vice President Marcie Crow, Libby Blackburn, Kevin Mahler, Elizabeth Werner Shannon Yeakel and McClure.

Those board members with terms set to expire in December who chose not to run for re-election include Board President Andrew Chomos, Allyson Minton, and Scott Russell.

McClure, 64, is a commercial property manager. Szymkowiak, 48, is in residency as a internal medicine/primary care physician for UPMC. Dozier is an attorney. And Hardy, 47, is a public health data analyst.

The newly elected board members will be officially sworn in at the board’s reorganization meeting on Dec. 1.
