2 men shot, 1 fatally, on Bedford Avenue in Hill District
Pittsburgh police said two men were shot, one fatally, in the city’s Hill District late Sunday.
At about 10:10 p.m. Sunday, police responded to multiple Shotspotter alerts and 911 calls for gunshots in the 2400 block of Bedford Avenue.
When Zone 2 officers arrived on the scene, they said they were directed to the apartment of the gunshot victim, who was then transported to a local hospital. Kane Hines, 19, died in the shooting, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office.
While at the scene, officers said they were notified of another gunshot victim who had walked into a local hospital. Tribune-Review news partner WPXI reports the second victim arrived with a gunshot wound to the back.
Police said both victims appear to have been shot on Bedford Avenue.
The investigation is ongoing.
Shootings and homicides have seen an uptick this year compared to the same time period in 2021, according to police.
Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey has called for a collaborative effort between local officials, foundations, hospitals, universities, and corporations to tackle the increase in gun violence.
