Two students at Brashear High School in Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood were hospitalized Wednesday after they ingested “am unknown edible candy,” a school spokeswoman said.

Four students were involved in the incident. Two fell ill after eating the candy, Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said.

School officials are investigating to determine how — and why — the incident occurred.

“As this incident is under investigation and involves minors, no further information is available,” Pugh said.

Pittsburgh Police are not investigating the incident, spokeswoman Cara Cruz said. She forwarded questions to the school district.

Cruz said Pittsburgh EMS evaluated two patients on the scene and took them to an area hospital in stable condition. She said both patients had “higher heart rates.”

More than 920 students attend ninth through 12th grades at Brashear High School, a four-story schoolhouse built on Crane Avenue in 1976, according to the school district’s website.
