One person died and another was injured early Friday in a fire in Pittsburgh’s Beechview neighborhood, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials.

Emergency crews responded at about 2 a.m. to the house fire in the 700 block of Sebring Avenue.

Authorities said the crews found a woman, 79, and man, 50, both suffering from burns.

The woman, who was in critical condition following the incident, was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety Spokeswoman Cara Cruz. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified her as Angela Lockard of Pittsburgh.

At the time of the fire, the man was listed in critical, but stable condition, Cruz said. An update on his condition was not provided.

A city police officer was also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

No other injuries were reported.

Homeowners on either side of the fire were evacuated as a precaution, Cruz said.

The fire is under investigation.
