2 teens charged in fatal shooting of another teen in Pittsburgh's Knoxville
Two teenagers feuding with another group opened fire on a Knoxville street in February, killing an 18-year-old, according to police.
Michael Morgan and Tymair Cox, both 18, are charged with homicide.
The charges stem from the Feb. 23 killing of Teron Williams, 18. He was shot as he stood with friends on Reifert Street.
Investigators focused in on Morgan and Cox after a tip from the bureau’s intel unit indicated that they belonged to a group with whom Williams and his friends were feuding, according to the criminal complaint.
City surveillance cameras captured the shooting, police wrote, and they linked a Nissan Rogue the suspected shooters arrived in to Morgan’s legal guardian. Other cameras showed the Rogue circling Reifert Street before the shooting and speeding away from the area afterward.
Cameras near Onyx Way showed an individual wearing a distinctive black hoodie, red pants and white shoes shooting toward Williams and his friends, detectives wrote. The footage shows the shooter running away from the scene and getting into the Nissan.
Witnesses at Carrick High School provided police with security footage captured during the day of the shooting, according to the complaint. Investigators said that footage showed Cox inside the school wearing the same distinct hoodie, red pants and white shoes that the shooter is seen wearing in the footage from the scene of the shooting. Cox was a Carrick student.
Morgan is charged with homicide and conspiracy. Cox is charged with homicide, conspiracy and illegally possessing a firearm. Both were in the Allegheny County Jail on Thursday where they will be held without bail.
Court records did not list defense attorneys for either teen as of Thursday.
