A 28-year-old man is accused of killing a woman in her North Braddock apartment Saturday morning.

Allegheny County Police on Sunday said they charged Victor Ramon Estrella Cordero with criminal homicide in the death of Faith Henley, 66.

According to county police, Eastern Mon Valley Regional Police responded to a report of an overdose or medical emergency around 10 a.m. Saturday at Shady Park Apartments in the 400 block of Lobinger Avenue.

County police said Cordero, who at first gave officers a false name, had made the call to 911.

According to a criminal complaint against Cordero, officers found Henley lying on her back in the living room of her apartment with multiple lacerations to the back of her head, back of her neck and to the right side of her forehead.

The apartment was in disarray with signs of a struggle, the complaint states. Henley was found with her stomach exposed, pieces of broken gold-plated metal around her and on her, and with multiple dog leases affixed to her wrists and ankles.

Police said Cordero told them that Henley’s daughter, his old girlfriend, owed him $400 but did not want to pay him back. He claimed Henley told him Friday that she’d be responsible for paying him and told him to come get his money, the complaint states.

Cordero said no one answered a knock at Henley’s door. He turned the door handle, which was unlocked, walked in and found Henley lying on the ground. Seeing blood, Cordero said he called police and waited for officers to arrive, according to the complaint.

However, county police said surveillance footage showing the comings and goings from Henley’s apartment do not support Cordero’s story.

The video does not show him arriving between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., when he said he did, that morning, the complaint states. County police said they had probable cause to believe Cordero was already in the apartment and was the only person inside when Henley was last seen alive arriving at her apartment at 5:41 a.m.

Bloodied clothing suspected to be worn by Cordero, as seen in video the day before, was found hidden in a bedroom closet, the complaint states.

Cordero was taken to the Allegheny County Jail pending preliminary arraignment.
