The second eaglet at the Pittsburgh Glen Hazel eagle nest died early Monday morning, according to a PixCams update posted to Facebook.
The second eaglet, referred to as GH3, came after the death of the first eaglet on Sunday, referred to as GH4.
Both were “presenting with possible signs of illness” on Friday morning, according to PixCams.
“Despite hope overnight that GH3 might recover, they sadly did not pull through,” Monday’s update said.
The cause of the illness remains unknown as of Monday, according to Facebook.
“The team at Tamarack Wildlife Center continues working to obtain the necessary permissions to investigate further and better understand what happened,” the post said. “This is an incredibly difficult moment for everyone who has followed and cared about this nest.”
In the 14 years of streaming the eagles at Glen Hazel, PixCams said it’s never experienced loss eslike this.
“Our thoughts are with ‘Mom’ and the entire eagle family, as well as the many viewers who have formed a deep connection to them,” the post said. “Thank you to this amazing community for your compassion, support and for looking out for these birds every single day.”
To be transparent and honor the eaglets, the live streaming wildlife camera service said the camera will remain live at the Glen Hazel nest.
