The Allegheny County Health Department shut down three illegal nightclubs over the week, none of which had valid health permits and all of which were flouting covid-19 mitigation measures, according to health department data.
The Alley in Carrick, 9 Café in Wilkinsburg and the 703 Social Club in Marshall-Shadeland were all ordered to close Sunday, according to the health department website.
The Alley and 703 Social Club both had no health permits, and 9 Café was operating with an expired permit. None had their maximum occupancy posted as required, and inspectors noted that all were violating some form of covid mitigation measures, from lack of food service accompanying alcohol sales to not requiring masks.
Health inspectors noted that 9 Café – which was operating under the name Club G 97 – was charging a cover at the door and there “was zero distancing between guests.”
Enforcement agencies – the health department, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Department of State, and more – continue to issue covid-related violations each week, even now nearly a year into the pandemic.
Last weekend, Feb. 12 to 14, state police issued 11 violations across the state, including one in the Pittsburgh area, according to state data. For the week of Feb. 8 to 11, they issued 13 statewide violations, with three in Pittsburgh. That was in addition to five warnings out of the 159 checks of liquor licensed establishments.
The week prior, state police issued six violations in Pittsburgh and 10 warnings.
