3 charged in assault at North Shore bar
Social media tips helped Pittsburgh police identify three people accused in a violent assault last month in the bathroom of a North Shore bar, according to the criminal complaints against them.
Seth Grier, 32, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault in connection with an attack on two women in Shorty’s Pins x Pints on North Shore Drive shortly before last call on April 10, police said.
In addition to Grier, Tandraya Carpenter, 31, is charged with simple assault. A third woman is set to be charged with harassment via summons, according to the complaint.
The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. when two women were in the bathroom at the bar. One woman told police that she said hello to Grier, who was on his phone in a hallway, because they made eye contact. A few minutes later, according to the complaint, a woman came in and began to scream at the women.
The women told police that Grier and Carpenter then came into the bathroom and began to yell as well, according to the complaint. Grier allegedly accused one of the women of giving him a dirty look and then punched her in the head, knocking her to the ground and causing her to briefly lose consciousness.
Grier, Carpenter and the third woman attacked both women, and the fight spilled into the hallway, according to the complaint. Employees at the bar eventually broke up the altercation, and the women “retreat in fear to the women’s room,” police wrote. Grier allegedly went back into the bathroom and screamed in one woman’s face before taking off with her wallet, which she had lost in the altercation.
The woman who was with Carpenter and Grier – the summary charge of harassment has not yet been filed — told investigators that Grier said the women called him a name, which is when she went into the bathroom and began to yell at the women, according to the complaint. She told police she tried to pull Carpenter away from the fight and “expressed remorse and that she made some bad decisions.”
Police wrote that they were unable to interview Carpenter because she lives in Georgia, but her attorney told them she will return for court proceedings. Additionally, the wallet that was taken was mailed backed via a post office in Georgia, police said.
One woman suffered a concussion, ruptured eardrum, blood clot, hearing loss, and other head injuries. The other suffered a concussion, broken wrist, black eye, and required six stitches.
In addition to aggravated assault, Grier is charged with two counts each of theft and access device fraud.
