Temperatures are rising, but Matt Spaeth — yes, that Matt Spaeth — could not help but think of winter as he guided a tour of a condo in Downtown Pittsburgh, on the market for $5.25 million.

“The owner said that when he sits on the couch at Christmas time with all of the decorations surrounding him while it is snowing, he feels like he is sitting inside of a snow globe,” said Spaeth, the former Steelers tight end who now works as a Realtor for Piatt Sotheby’s International Realty.

The 180-degree views come from the 19th floor of 550 Market St., which also houses the Fairmont Hotel.

The unit, between 5,500 and 6,000 square feet, is the result of merging three previously separate condos in the Residences at the Fairmont. The project was completed around 2010.

The main space is intended for entertaining. Dual fireplaces bookend the room. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer vast views of Downtown and PNC Park.

“For people who want city living, this is definitely Downtown living,” Spaeth said.

Residents can control the space with the click of a button. Flat-screen TVs, motorized blinds, cabinets and security cameras function automatically. They also have access to all Fairmont Hotel amenities: gym, concierge, room service, spa and valet parking, in addition to three personal parking spaces. The condo is accessible only via a private elevator.

Two leathered granite islands, each with six bar chairs, provide additional seating. Appliances include Sub-Zero bar chillers, Gaggenau refrigerators and a Miele gas oven. A butler’s pantry is adjacent to the kitchen facilities.

Seating for 10 is found at a glass-top dining table that overlooks PPG Place at the far end of the room.

“(The owner) wanted the condo to be transformable,” Spaeth said. “There are hardwood floors and all the walls are white. He didn’t cover any windows. It would not be difficult to make any changes.”

A step away from the living room is a marble-floored office that overlooks more of the city and the Monongahela River. Vintage comics display behind the desk and in the hallway.

Spaeth described the comics as the owner’s one possession they would not be open to parting with.

The other end of the condo includes three bedrooms: two guests and a master. The guest rooms share a bathroom, while the master includes a private bathroom. The master bathroom has a rectangular soaking tub and dual rainfall shower that has its own window, tinted for privacy.
