3 men injured during overnight shootings in South Side
Pittsburgh police officers found three men suffering from gunshot wounds in separate locations after hearing a volley of gunfire ring out early Friday morning while on patrol in the South Side.
Officers from the Zone 3 station heard gunfire in the vicinity of East Carson and South 18th Street shortly after 1:30 a.m., according to a city police spokeswoman Cara Cruz.
Responding officers quickly located the three men and began treating their injuries until medics arrived.
One of the victims was taken to the hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.
He was found at South 18th and Sidney streets, according to Tribune-Review news partners WPXI-TV.
The other two men, one of whom flagged down a paramedic at South 10th and Muriel streets, were taken to local trauma centers in serious condition, the TV station reported.
Cruz said four people were detained while police investigated the multiple shooting scenes, authorities said.
An officer suffered a wrist injury while detaining one of the people and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Multiple firearms were recovered from the shooting scenes, WPXI reported.
Police did not say if any arrests were made.
East Carson street was closed until about 4:30 a.m. while officers from the Violent Crime and Mobile Crime units investigated.
