33-year-old man fatally shot on Pittsburgh's South Side
A man was fatally shot Sunday night in Pittsburgh’s South Side Flats neighborhood, according to police.
The 33-year-old man had been shot in the neck around 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of East Carson Street, city police said. Steve Robertson of Squirrel Hill South died at a hospital after being transported by paramedics, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.
Authorities were reviewing surveillance video. The shooting happened near Urban Tap and Dairy Queen. No arrests have been announced.
“It caused a little bit of concern, but my officers responded quickly and adequately,” Pittsburgh Police Sgt. Adam Pernelli told reporters at the scene, according to Trib news partner WTAE. “So, you know, everyone … felt safe immediately. It was not a chaotic scene whatsoever.”
It was the second fatal shooting in the same block in eight days.
Rayon Williams, 26, of McKeesport died at a hospital Oct. 4 after being shot at Bonez Barbershop at 1221 E. Carson St. Myairah Carter, 25, of Baldwin was charged with homicide. The women had been in a dispute over the past two years, according to court papers.
Pittsburgh police have been operating a special patrol in the neighborhood after instances of crime and unruly crowds. The Trib reported last month that residents, community activists and business owners are trying to improve the neighborhood’s reputation through a concerted rebranding effort on East Carson Street from 10th to 28th streets.
