4 members of Mayor Bill Peduto's office announce departures
Four members of the Office of Mayor Bill Peduto announced on Friday their departures for new positions.
• Alicia Carberry, who has served as the operations assistant in the Mayor’s Office since August 2015 and has worked for the city since 2015, will leave her post Monday.
During her time in the Mayor’s Office, Carberry served on the Clean Pittsburgh and Shade Tree Commissions, formed a partnership between the city and Allegheny CleanWays, and co-founded and organized the Garbage Olympics for five years.
She worked with city departments to implement the Goals on Littering and Dumping (GOLD) plan, which she’ll continue to focus on as the Department of Public Works recycling supervisor in the Bureau of Environmental Services.
• Henry Horn Pyatt began his tenure in the Mayor’s Office in 2014 as the Small Business and Neighborhood Redevelopment manager in the Bureau of Neighborhood Empowerment before becoming the Economic Opportunity manager in the Office for Equity.
He established the Financial Empowerment Centers (FECs) ,which offer free one-on-one financial counseling to residents over age 18. He also worked with the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) to create new technical assistance and financial tools for entrepreneurs who lack capital or business experience.
Horn Pyatt’s last day in his current role will be Oct. 22. He will transition to his new post as community affairs specialist in Pennsylvania for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
• Tiffini Gorman Simoneaux began working in the Mayor’s Office as the Early Childhood manager in August 2016 before transitioning to become the Youth and Education manager in the Office of Equity.
She launched the $2 million Child Care Quality Fund, which offers grants to early learning and child care facilities, and implemented the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which sends one free book each month to any child in the city up to age 5. Gorman Simoneaux was selected to be part of the National League of Cities inaugural class of Early Childhood Municipal Fellows.
Her last day in the Mayor’s Office is slated for Nov. 1. She’ll move on to serve as the Outreach and Strategic Partnerships director at A+ Schools.
• The final departure announced Friday was Darlene Watson, who served as the administrative assistant receptionist for the Mayor’s Office since September 2016. She was the first person people interacted with when visiting the Mayor’s Office.
Her last day was Wednesday, Sept. 22. She’ll be working in a similar role with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
“Alicia, Henry, Tiffini and Darlene have served in this administration for several years and they have brought energy and passion to their roles to make Pittsburgh a better place,” Peduto said. “I thank each of them for their dedication, drive and creativity to deliver critical programs and serves to our residents. We were lucky to have selfless and smart public servants and I know they will each continue to offer their gifts for the betterment of our neighbors.”
