Five Democratic candidates will face five Republicans on the November general election ballot to compete for five Riverview School Board seats.

In the May 16 primary, Jennifer K. Chaparro, an incumbent who serves as the board’s vice president, garnered the most votes among Democrats (1,049), according to unofficial Allegheny County results.

Antonio Paris, another incumbent, received 960 votes on the Democratic ticket, followed by newcomers Leanne Jacobs-Rohan (925), Erin Schuetz (902) and Roger Pogoda (784).

Republicans who earned spots on the November ballot all are Nick Paradise (491 votes), Colette Saxon-Kmetz (465), Seth Wermager (430), Melissa Botta-Havran (404) and Isabelle McDade (374).

Three incumbents whose terms expire this year did not run for reelection: Melanie Pallone, Maureen McClure and Jane Miller. Pallone won the Democratic nomination to claim the vacant district judge’s office serving Plum and Oakmont

Besides McDade, who lives in Verona, all the Riverview candidates are Oakmont residents.

School board members with terms expiring in 2025 are Jeanine C. Hurt-Robinson, president, along with Brian Hawk, Wendy K. Wilton and Stefani Garibay.

For three seats on Oakmont Council, Democrats Nancy Ride (913 votes), Jennifer Paris (871) and Deborah L. Ormay (857) will face Republicans Mark Springer (439), David Graver (354) and Al Hatok (340) in November. None faced primary opposition in the respective parties. Ride, council’s vice president, is the only incumbent among the candidates.

In Verona, borough council members Sylvia K. Provenza (207 primary votes), Nancy A. Carpenter (201) and Timothy W. Long (166) were unopposed as Democrats for three four-year seats, and incumbent William “Red” Craig (65 votes) was the only Republican on the ballot. Carpenter received 236 votes as the only primary candidate for a two-year term on council.
