Elizabeth Forward High School students will attend 100% online classes for the first week of the school year after several students tested positive for covid-19, according to a Friday letter from superintendent Todd Keruskin.

Six students and one part-time employee have tested positive for the virus, according to the letter.

The first day of school is still set for Monday, but high school students will not attend in person, Keruskin said.

The school district’s plans to reopen for the start of school has two options: a full-time online option, and a hybrid model in which students will attend in-person classes two days a week and three days online.

Students in kindergarten through eighth grade who have opted for the hybrid model should still report as planned. The days on which students attend in-person classes will be consecutive, either Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday, according to the reopening plan. Wednesdays are reserved for deep cleaning.

Keruskin wrote in the letter to parents that the ill students and staff member will not return to school until they’ve completed the standard two-week isolation period, and contact tracing is in progress to identify anyone who came into close contact with them.
