The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday identified the girl that a vehicle struck and killed a day earlier in Homewood as Courtney Carter.

Courtney, 9, of Pittsburgh, was riding her bike at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday on Rosedale Street near Tacoma Street when a vehicle hit her, Pittsburgh police said.

Police said Courtney suffered traumatic injuries before first responders rushed her to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where she was pronounced dead at 6:24 p.m.

The woman driving the vehicle stayed at the scene and was cooperative with officers, Pittsburgh police said.

An investigation is ongoing.

Pittsburgh Public Safety initially said the victim was a 6-year-old child.
