AHN offering colon cancer screenings on 2 Saturdays in March in North Hills
Allegheny Health Network will mark Colon Cancer Awareness Month by offering appointments for colorectal cancer screenings on two Saturdays during March in the North Hills.
“While colorectal cancer is among the most lethal and progressive forms of cancer, it is also highly preventable through routine colonoscopy,” said Dr. Gursimran Kochhar. “And even if cancer is detected in the colon, it is highly curable if found early enough. The benefits of early screening, detection and treatment can truly be lifesaving.”
The doctor said screenings are vital because many people with colorectal cancer do not experience symptoms.
The Saturday screenings are being offered as a more convenient option for people who find it difficult to schedule appointments during weekdays, he said.
The screenings will be conducted March 12 at AHN’s McCandless Endoscopy Center on McKnight Road and on March 19 at the Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion on Perry Highway.
The screening will be done from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Call 412-515-2723 to schedule an appointment.
AHN officials said most health insurance plans cover the cost of the screening, but patients should check with their provider for specific coverage information.
Once an appointment is scheduled, patients will get instructions on how to prepare for the outpatient procedure.
Screenings also are being offered March 12 at AHN’s Bethel Park Surgery Center and on March 19 at the North Shore Endoscopy Center.
