A Cranberry Township man faces federal civil penalties after a 9mm handgun loaded with 15 bullets was found Wednesday in his carry-on bag at Pittsburgh International Airport.
A Transportation Security Administration officer spotted the handgun on the X-ray machine’s monitor at a security checkpoint. Allegheny County Police questioned the man.
TSA says a typical first offense for taking a loaded handgun into a checkpoint carries a fine of $4,100, which could rise to $13,669 depending on the circumstance.
This is the 11th gun found by the TSA at the airport this year. There were 35 guns found in 2019, 34 in 2018 and 32 in 2017, according to TSA records.
